Very much like Russell Crowe but better looking and a genuine Gladiator, given to fantasies.

Could it happen here?
by BurnTheShips inthis thread, and others like it, got me thinking that, if this board is representative of society, there is definitely an anti-theist wind blowing in western nations, much more so in europe than here in the united states.
could it happen here as it happened there?.
from edward j. derwinski "religious persecution in the soviet union - transcript".

I personally think that the anti-Islamic backlash will be the spark that touches off something big, to be sure.
Islam is doing more to turn people away from religion than gladiators. People watch such fanaticism and realise that all religions at some level damage people's minds and ability to be rational.
People like Dawkins, questions the idea of a God as taught by major religions. He looks for evidence that such a God exists. Only the insane believe without questioning.
The Islam issue could be for religion, the straw that breaks the lions back.

Did you know that the Apostle Paul was thrown before Roman lions?
by inkling inbut the co said so from the platform, so it must be true.. his "source" was this text:.
for we do not wish you to be ignorant, brothers, about the tribulation that happened to us in the [district of] asia, that we were under extreme pressure beyond our strength, so that we were very uncertain even of our lives.
in fact, we felt within ourselves that we had received the sentence of death.

Nonsense. I was there. This Paul guy was too busy spouting his opinions in between taking cold showers to keep his thoughts off women.
Anyhow, he was a Roman citizen and protected from The Gladiator.

Statistics are deceptive things.
A couple of years ago, the police in the UK were warning of the dangers of drink driving by quoting the statistics that 4 out of every 10 people involved in motoring accidents had consumed some alcohol.
This really means that 60% of all motorists involved in accident were stone cold sober. Based on these findings the risk of an accident whilst driving diminishes if one has a drink. A bit of an own goal - hu?

Describe the Perfect Woman or Man....
by Dragonlady76 inok after the serena williams thread and a few others that focus on looks i want to know what your idea of perfection in the opposite or same sex is.. i like muscular men with a full head of hair, i love classic features like a strong nose and jaw.. i also find blond blue eyed men sexy (don't ask me why).
i don't like that are to thin, nice teeth and soft eyes.. ok now it's your turn.. .

Sorry to butt in - I thought this thread was about gladiators.
I like a woman with strong hair so I can pull her around easily.
Good at polishing metal helps.
Partial to a glass of Bulls Blood at arena temperature.
Keeping cats as pets is out of the question.
Obviously all woman are attracted to me and they feel safe when I am around.
Humour is not important as I like to be taken seriously.

UNDENIABLE LOGIC. Some cherish it while others dismiss it. Which are you?
by nicolaou inthere are so many ways to get into this topic; homeopathy, astrology, feng shui, alien abductions, seances and so on ad nauseum but let's pick a simple one - mathematics.
do you accept the undeniable logic that 1+1 must always equal 2?.
i cannot conceive of a situation where 1+1=3 but there was a time when i did!

We all put faith in concepts on a daily basis. Boarding an airplane and relaxing as we are lifted so high we have to rely on on board oxygen and cabin pressure to survive. We put faith in the airplane and all the trained people involved in making it possible but in short we are putting faith in the concept of flying. We believe it has been safely demonstrated enough times for us to commit ourselves to it.
We put faith in this concept because we have seen it demonstrated enough times to try it out. We are then able to add our own experience to the experience of others and the reality of what we have seen demonstrated. Some people have never flown and simply can‘t except the concept of flying. They know other people do but they do not feel that it's safety has been demonstrated to their satisfaction.
Religious faith is no different. It is just that there is dispute over the validity of what are claimed as demonstrations of an invisible realm and peoples experiences of it.
The question is whether there is any real scientific evidence. Much of what has been presented as evidence has been shown to be a hoax. The true believer says that faith is an emotional knowing and no proof or evidence is required. This annoys those who have worked so hard to be objective and arrive at a truthful conclusion.
For people who have rejected the concept of an invisible spirit realm there is often a resentment towards people who are still able to find comfort in their faith.
Some people say they need to believe to have faith. It comforts them and stops them feeling lost. It gives their life a meaning which brings comfort to them. The atheist works just as hard to maintain his position as does the believer, except he does not have the comfort of belief.
The dispute can never be settled because if faith is not dependent on evidence and can exist as a warm emotional experience, it is immune to all argument against it. Faith is in itself a living thing in the mind of the believer. It comforts when hot chocolate fails to.
Whether the faith is based on reality or is a concept, matters little to the believer if it fulfils his or her need. It only matters to non-believers who must justify their living without the comfort of faith.

THE GLADIATOR
Hi erandir
You ask how my occupation works out nowadays...
Well gigs are hard to come by and it is a 'dead-end job' - but when I help myself to drinks in bars and restaurants - I get no complaints!
By the way you have some pretty fancy armour on yourself. Ever thought of being a gladiator?

THE GLADIATOR
I was sitting at a bar - as I do - and there were small bowls of cheese squares, crisps and peanuts for customers to nibble with their drinks. Some fat-ass comes in and starts pigging out. The bar tender tells him that it is not a free buffet.
The fat-ass says that he don't see no sign saying how much each customer is allowed. The bar tender tells him that he is there to tell people. The gut tries to argue so I tell him stop being a prat. He looks at all the steel i am wearing and the muscles on my legs and manages to control himself.
The smart thing for the restaurant owner mentioned in this thread, to do, would be offer free lemonade with every meal. But if that is not what he is offering, it is sneaky to take what has not been offered.
People who abuse generosity are being selfish and my verdict is that the greedy lemonade drinker should be fed to the lions or put to the sword for such a horrendous crime.
What is wrong with world nowadays?
